Bellevue Healthcare

Lift Chair Sorting Module

Project Overview

When customers of Bellevue Healthcare visit the Lift Chair category of the website, there are 24 options to choose from. These types of chairs help those who have a hard time getting up from a chair. Not only do they provide this functionality, but they are designed similar to popular recliners. These features range from positions, heating, fabric types, and different sizes.

PROBLEM

I decided to add functionality to this page of the website that sorts by the type of features that the lift chair has. My solution was to find the top filters that users would find useful to pick a chair.

TOOLS

Design Process

01 Empathize

I chose card sorting to collect information from customers and employees to decipher which categories would be the most effective for future users.

Card Sorting

02 Define

Once I collected data from the card sorting, I was able to create a site map for this module.I finalized the top filters to be position, fabric, size, and extra features.

Site Map

03 Ideate

By creating the site map, I had a better idea of how the module was going to be laid out. This wireframe is a bit more detailed to help continue the process and create the final design.

Wireframe

04 Usability Testing

  • Method: remote, moderated one-on-one

  • Participants: 5

  • Age Range: 30-50

OVERVIEW

  • How long did it take for a user to find a chair that they wanted?

  • Do the filters help the user make a decision?

  • How long does it take for a user to find the seat position descriptions?

  • Do the users understand the types of fabrics?

LEADING QUESTIONS

Users found that there were too many types of fabrics and didn’t know how to decide which one to choose. This led me to shorten the amount of fabrics to the main types that these brands provide.

At first, users didn’t understand the types of seat positions until they clicked on the actual lift chair to read the description. The manufacturers already have a guide made with the descriptions of each position, so I decided to add it above the position filter.

Insights

Takeaways

In the Empathize part of the design process, I used a research method that was new to me. This project helped me learn more about the process of card sorting. I found this method very useful and now know which types of projects to use this for. This project also helped me practice the functions of WordPress to create the filters for this module.
